THE TRIP - WEEK ONE (part 2) – BANGKOK

McDuck (and little friend) would like to introduce you to a pictorial review of some of my activities over the past few days, please enjoy.

I was careful not to mix these two up, actually, they were both good, one a bit hotter than the other.

Came across this in a very plush shopping centre, (I know completely out of character for me to go in to one by choice but you have to consider where the air conditioning is, clever eh) It appears that this huge set with real guards outside and gold everywhere inside, was a promo for a Thai film release. It was causing quite a stir.

It really is hard to find beauty in the Skyrail tracks. They cut a swathe through the city and it is an impressive piece of work, which is ongoing and it is very efficient and cheap and clean but it is still pretty ugly.

A couple of views from the river bus on the way to visit The Grand Palace. These are just two examples of the incredible variances in buildings and lifestyles in this place. By the way, the river was full of activity, there were tugs hauling massive trains of cargo barges, river buses and taxis, courtesy boats serving the hotels on the banks long tail boat buzzing tourists around. Makes the Thames look very quiet and the Clyde dead by comparison. Hmm, is there an idea in there somewhere or would UK health and safety put a stop to that nonsense?!

You will be glad to know that I have really edited the number of pictures down for this bit. I went a bit ga ga at the size and impressiveness of The Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn on the other side of the river. Needless to say I will (given the chance) bore you with the others when I get back.

If, like me, you hadn’t done a great deal of research before you got here, you would, like me, be taken aback by what greets you. This is ‘The Giant Lying Happy Buda’ , it’s proper gold you know!

Didn’t want to go that way anyway!

Anyone who wonders where PC game designers get inspiration for the likes of Lara Croft Tomb Raider, wonder no more.

Just to prove I really was there. It’s proper gold all that!

Probably doesn’t do the job but this was meant to show just how big the site is. I really began to wonder if I could find the way out at one point.

All around the central courtyard, about the size of a football pitch, were these cased Budas of all sizes, be told, its real gold ok.

Didn’t want to go that way either.

Ok, we haven’t had one of these for a while. Don’t ask, I have not a clue, there can be little worse than a dangled dolly I’m sure!

Strong little fellows these.

No, not that way either, although it seems a shame that someone built all those steps and no one can use them.

Just another shot for comparison. Compare the foreground with the horizon, it really is a city of extremes.

Still ugly.

Nipped out for a bottle of water last night…… I hate queuing!!!

What shall I do tomorrow…… I know, fly to Melbourne. Bye bye Bangkok and thanks for the experience!
